About the role
The Melbourne School of Design (MSD), located in the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, is one of the world’s leading forces in imagining and shaping the future of the built environment. It is distinctive in its aim to inspire learning through interdisciplinary reflection, and its integration of research, teaching, and practice around the environmental implications of all forms of urbanisation. Advanced studio and seminar-based learning and research allows students to develop new perspectives and modes of action to address the environmental, social and aesthetic challenges in producing sustainable centres of habitation. Creative collaboration across the School’s exceptional faculty informs research and its engagement with national and international peers, governments, industry and communities and in turn shapes responses to the future of habitats.
The School is now seeking to appoint a new Director as successor to Professor Alan Pert. The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader of international standing, able to draw on their exceptional leadership to build and deliver world-class academic programs. The Director will be charged with setting strategic direction, and providing academic oversight of the School. The articulation of a clear vision of graduate education will be central, along with the ability to encourage innovation and cutting-edge pedagogy and enthusiasm for multi-disciplinary inquiry. A commitment to practice based learning and research, to forging new partnerships with key external stakeholders as well as a real flair for representing the School locally and on the international stage will be critical.
